Well, I've just carved out my swede (turnip) - took about an hour, most of which was the face (as in the avatar)

Anybody else carved out their pumpkins/turnips yet? Anybody ruined theirs and had to buy another one? And do you make use of the scooped-out stuff?

Well done Sir! I haven't done mine yet, but will buy one tomorrow and attempt to carve a masterpiece! If I do manage to create said materpiece, I'll post my results on here.

As for the scooped out mushy bits, I'll probably bury them as an offering as I don't like cooked pumpkin or turnip for that matter!

I saw some in a couple of small green grocers around town but they were eally tiny and still quite green so I'm not buying one of them.

Just got back from Waitroses. It's one of their massive stores, but not a pumpkin in sight! Last year they had masses of them piled up - right from the tiny ones to the gigantic ones you'd have problems carrying home! So it does look like a universal shortage as predicted. But surprising nothing in the media about it so far (watch this space! ).

Any better over the pond, Koko?

My local Morrisons has loads of Pumpkins or did have on Sunday. But could I find a whole bloody Turnip so I could carve one? Could I hell...

I don't carve Pumpkins, much prefer to se the native Turnip even if it is harder to carve. I find the results much more satisfying and scarier too

I'm with you there, Herne......and altho' I don't like eating turnips/swedes, they have a really wonderful aroma when carved out and a candle is lit inside!

I dropped mine just as I was positioning it in the garden. Part of the face broke off.........

Managed to put it back as best I could, but it's too late now to get/carve another. I'm bl**dy furious................
