I learned of a little ceremony/ritual a while ago where you prepare and cook a meal for someone who has passed over and you kind of act as though they are there with you again. I normally do it for my mum, and I think it's a lovely little ritual. I leave the food out afterwards for wildlife to enjoy. Another thing I always do is to light a candle and put in in the window for all the lost souls.
This is my favourite festival. It resonates with something in me and I just find it very magickal.
Thanks for the info Tigress ............... very informative. _________________
I just follow a simple prayer/blessing for those who have passed. I do think I will try what SC mentioned...it sounds beautiful. Thanks for the info everyone! _________________ "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." - Anatole France

This year will be a little more poignant for me ~ I've bought a special candle for my Dad who sadly passed over earlier this year so I shall do that as well as lighting one as I normally do like SC.

In the southern part of Mexico....and I believe through out Mexico...they make all kinds of cookies; candies;breads, etc. They line the bed with candles and place all the goodies on the bed....they leave it there all night... praying all night.....the next morning they allow the children to take some of the candies and cookies.... At leaset this is what my ex mother in law did... _________________
I shall be doing something to mark the passing of my Nana at Christmas last year. I never thought that I would miss her as much as I do, and she loved candles so I think I will make a big one and dedicate it to her. She would have liked that.
At Samhain I try to remember all those who have passed over, this year I will be marking the passing of Cosmic Fool who is still keenly and sadly missed (died November 9th last year) but remembering those who have passed is only a small part of Samhain for me, It's a time of Deep introspection, where I look at myself and how I have lived the last year, what needs to change etc. I do a small ritual to 'banish' some of the negative aspects of myself, and to help bring about the changes I need to make.
It's my favourite time of year, and certainly my favourite festival even though due to what I do within it, it can also be the most challenging and sometimes painful experience.
I will also do a little scrying into the coming year to see what it may possibly hold for me _________________
Before I had my daughter we use to join up with a coven on Beltaine and Samhain. We haven't done that since she was a baby because it's so hard to enjoy it and take care of her. Plus we want to keep her seperate from our beliefs. So we just normally light a candle and do a little something at home after she's in bed and most of the town is sleeping.
