A mild earthquake hit the Midlands last night, not all that far from me..... we didn't feel a thing though. We seem to have a few of these quakes in recent years.
That does not sound good...keep safe my friends!!!! _________________ "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." - Anatole France
They're apparently quite frequent - just that they're usually so low intensity that we normally don't notice them - especially during the day. I remember a large one off Dover (I think) some years ago, which was even felt in parts of London and Essex!
I've just Googled, and found this site by the British Geological Survey. There are apparently 20-30 earthquakes felt by people in the UK each year - tho' most are, again, very minor!
Rik, thanks for the info. I just never thought of the UK as being a geologic hotbed of earthquakes.
Also, Mystress, the New Madrid fault you were talking about had quite a bad history, and supposedly is due or over due to go again. It was one of the largest quakes in the states....
