Cerne Abbas gets a makeover! From the BBC Website:
| Quote: | Volunteers have started work to restore Dorset's Cerne Abbas chalk giant to its former glory.
Conservationists began a makeover on Saturday to re-chalk the 180ft (54m) ancient fertility symbol, which has become obscured by vegetation and moss.
The increased growth has been blamed on the wet summer and shortage of sheep farmers lending their flocks.
The National Trust usually borrows about 100 sheep in May and September to graze the club-wielding figure.
Rob Rhodes, National Trust head warden for west Dorset, said: "It is lovely to see the giant emerge from the countryside.
"You can see his head and club more clearly and see him coming down the hill. |

I saw this on the news earlier tonight...it looks like a back-breaking task, but it will be so worth it. They have only done about a third so far (I think) and already he's looking better.

Did anyone hear about the drawing of Bart Simpson that was next to him? I also heard that a pagan had made complaints that it was inconsiderate to our religion. For instance, what if they put Bart on a cross as part of a movie promotion? Won't we hear it from Pat Robertson, et al.?

Thanks Rik.... I saw this too. It's nice that they're giving him make over ~ it's well needed as he was looking rather shabby.
I've never been to see him but would love to go. Has anyone here been??

Yeah ~ I remember this Mystress, wasn't it some silly prank to promote the Simpsons movie?
I can understand people's annoyance and I didn't agree with it at the time, and still don't. But thankfully, no harm to the Giant was done.

Yeah...I remember that stunt, too (if it had been anything but the Simpsons, it would have been ok...haven't watched that show for years )
