Dr WhoI hear that David Bowie might be starring as an evil alien in the next series of Dr Who. I'll be glued to the screen! I can't think of anyone better to play an evil alien! (Well he's halfway there with his odd-coloured eyes anyway!).

I think she's going to be in the Christmas one only, but I'm not 100% about that.

Thanks for that Mystress...
I'm more of a Torchwood fan myself... have you seen this over in the states??

I've just edited your post to get the link working Mystress. Should be ok now.
Although Doctor Who's one of my favourite TV series, I have to say I was never really impressed on his characterisation as the Doctor! (I've always preferred the Chaplinesque style of the late Patrick Troughton (tho' sadly much of his material was destroyed by the BBC). The current incumbent - David Tennant - stands up impressively well tho'

The last time I watched Dr.Who Sylvester MacCoy was the Doctor

I'm not sure. The way I'm able to watch it is via YouTube. Maybe the sci-fi channel on cable has it, but I haven't heard. I also see sexy Tennent on YouTube (they no longer run any Doctor Who on our PBS). I love John Barrowman!
Thanks, Riktor48! (maybe tell me sometime how to do the link). YouTube also has shown some of the Troughton episodes. Unfortunately, they've been cracking down and changing the site to where one can't see them or much vids anymore.
Eccleston was the first Doctor of the new series. Initially, I didn't like it (being a puritan), but it grew on me, then I saw Tennent...

Yep........ likewise! But I was intensely annoyed at Eccleston reneging on his role after only one season. Traditionally new actors playing the role have been expected to show commitment and stay on for two/three years. So he's very much in my 'black book!'
Oh...... no probs with your link as such - you just need to ensure no spaces between the url tag and the link itself. Otherwise it won't work!

I think that I was put off mostly by the fact that Billie Piper was the assistant (am not a great fan of hers to be honest )
ps...Rik...can I ask...what is that you have as an avatar? I've been looking at it for ages and I can't make it out

It's one of Lady Sybil's ex-swamp dragons of course, Minty! Called Hictorina........... I just have to be very careful she doesn't hiccup.....
But in truth, she's a simple resin-cast red dragon I saw at a charity shop. Cost me all of two quid........ but I couldn't resist her!

same here, Minty. she was a let down from the original Dr.Who assistants. like feminism in reverse...

I would tend to agree, Minty and Mystress
Out of the new assistants, I confess I much preferred Catherine Tate, even tho' I didn't like her as a comedian in her own shows. I was very sorry to see her go.
In the original series........ Leela rated quite high..........

Thanks for clearing that up, Rik, I could see some scales, I just couldn't make her out (forgive me, Hictorina )

I wanted to be like Leela, but more of a Sarah-Jane Smith (which is also very nice).
Jo Grant was not like a Zoe or a Liz Shaw; Mel was the worst (that scream! )

Oh Mel (Bonnie Langford)............ was the pits! I'm sure lots of loyal viewers emigrated when she appeared.
|
Mystress
|
that's very likely. they blame Sylvester McCoy for the demise of the original Dr. Who but I'm thinking Mel killed it for most of us
|
Riktor48
|
How true. Actually I thought Sylvester McCoy was rather good - especially considering the 'lean' years with Colin Baker and Peter Davison. Tho' not putting any blame on those actors - it was often the appalling scripts which let them, and McCoy, down and allowed the series to slump into oblivion.
I did mention earlier that Tom Baker wasn't a favourite of mine, but I have to say the quality of script writing for the series was superb in his time. And I also thought the definitive Master was the late Roger Delgado! Not even John Simm could match his overpoweringly evil yet polite personality! But that's just a personal opinion! lol
|
Mystress
|
You're right about the bad scripts, Riktor48.
The new series isn't up to snuf compared with the Tom years (or the originals). Davros and Daleks lost a lot of their cold hard terror-inducing nature. Daleks cracking jokes isn't right...
I find it hard to tell the best Master, but Roger Delgado invented the Master and all others just follow behind. Again, the new series doesn't have a certain something, something that diminishes the quality of intensity... don't know how to say it... and John Simms isn't "Master" enough it seems to me..

So David Tennant has announced that 2009 will be his last series playing The Doctor. Who would you like to see play the next one? Any thoughts anyone?

Mystress

loved Tennant. I don't know of candidates to replace him.
Waiting for someone to post new season on YouTube. also, the new season of Kingdom...
Thank you for the info (it helps me to start the mourning process now..)
