Local Elections

Well ~ not surprising ~ Gordon Brown and the labour got a right hammering in the local elections yesterday.

Will be interesting and a little worrying to see what happens now....

Yep, but it was only to be expected, I suppose. I, for one, think that there should have been an immediate general election when Tony Blair stepped down. I don't like Gordon Brown, at all, and see him as a Prime Minister by default, as no-one elected him (and I certainly would not vote for him, or his party).

And in London, we got rid of 'Red' Ken Livingstone, too Hopefully Boris Johnson will stop ripping off Londoners and start making this a capital city that the whole country can be proud of again (the gun crime has become frighteningly serious now )

Even the Lib Dems are doing better in the polls than Labour!! Now if that wasn't time for them to get a new leader then I don't know what is
Riktor48

Even better if they went back to their core principles.   'New Labour' hijacked the 'Labour' name to make them more votable in the dying years of the last Tory administration.

And I will *never* forgive Brown for his decision to abolish the 10% tax band and hit the poorest sections of the community the hardest while at the same time reducing the tax burden on the more wealthy.  That is scandalous.

And I can't say I'm impressed by the 'New' Tories either...........!

As soon as someone assassinates Boris Johnson the better. The idea that this bumbling oaf can run London - he never ran the Spectator, just turned up at the office - is ridiculous. Watch out for juicy contracts going to friends and family of his "team" - the people who weren't elected but will be really running London for the next 4 years.

I'm sure you meant 'hypothetically speaking' Sethur!   We obviously shouldn't promote or imply violence in any form here.

I'm certainly not a supporter of Boris, but a change from Ken is welcome - especially the way he dramatically increased public fares in London (tho' I have to say I don't live in the Big Smoke!)  Let's give Boris a chance........... the usual 100 days!
Minty

I have to say that I'm glad Ken has gone from City Hall, by the end of the Mayoral Campaigns, just the sound of his whiny, nasal voice was enough to make me switch channels on the tv and don't even get me started about that appalling beige anorak

As you say, Rik, 100 days for Boris to put up or shut up, and then maybe we should warm the gibbet

Minty.  xx

Well, Boris has already started drinking again, and has appointed some old friends to pulicly funded jobs without the posts being advertised or in any other way opened to fair and open competition. Since some of his employees are members of the same Union as me, I'll be raising this at our annual conference this month.
