Wind of Change

I'm sure nobody is surprised at the fact that Labour have had a resounding defeat in the Crewe by-election

Now, I'm not one thats ever been particualrly interested in politics ~ mainly becasue I think they all promise this, that and the other but then never seem to be true to their word as soon as they are elected. But it seems the labour party, in particular Gordon Brown, have just completely lost the plot.

I think this defeat sends out a  very strong message to the Govt and if the other labour MP's have any sense at all, they'd get rid of Gordon before the party is destroyed completely.

Yep.......... I agree!   The Government, and especially Brown, are totally out of touch with the people.   And somehow I don't think he'll survive 'till the next election.  It tends to be very difficult for an unpopular PM to regain lost ground - Maggie only did it on the back of the Falkland War.

With the party conferences coming up after the Summer recess, it will be interesting to see what happens.  After all, a general election's only two years or so away, so any new PM will have to be settled in by then.

The seat was vacated by the highly respected Gwyneth Dunwoody - one of the rare breed of old traditional Labour members - and a great champion for people's rights, especially on public transport.  So it's a bit surprising that her daughter, who contested this by-election, didn't do better.  One has to wonder at the scale of the defeat had it been somebody else!
