I was reading a livejournal today (thanks T) and he had this great site that checks if you are getting the internet speed that you're paying for.

We are meant to be on 2mb here (we did have more, but it wasn't used so we down-graded it).

I was pleasantly surprised

Not bad at all my connection is the 10Mbs cable package. or Broadband L as Virgin call it. I'm happy with these speeds

I guess it depends on what oyu are after. but Virginmedia are doing a cable broadband connection that is upto 10Mbs for the princely sum of £20 per month (sign up on-line and get three months at £15) it's a twelve month contract paid by direct debit, (costs a little more not on Direct debit Admin charges they call it) I was hooked up on the 20th August and haven't had a problem at all so far, except a minor prob when initially setting it up but that was easily rectified.

It is worth shopping around to find the best deal for you, I chose virgin in the end because I didn't require a BT line in since it was a cable connection so that saves you money in the long term as you don't have line rental to pay.

That's interesting, Herne... we have Virginmedia broadband (and tv, phone and mobile), and what you're paying for 10 Mbs, we pay for two! (which is split between however many computers are on, usually two, sometimes three).

We're on their smallest package, so they say... smallest amount of Mbs for the largest price, it sounds like

bear in mind minty that I am only getting broadband for that price, no phone or tv. so your overall package could be cheaper than mine. I chose the smallest package available to me on a Cable connection.
