Oh, it just makes me *very, very* angry. Just another way for this bloody Government to control and get more money out of us.
And, yep, like you I try to recycle what I can (within reason), but most of my non-recycled stuff consists of wrappings etc - and bulk-wise it takes up nearly a whole black (non-recyclable) sack - so I certainly agree there.
But the real problem I have with all this is the pressure and stress it's putting on ordinary people - including fortnightly collections, wheelie bins for those who haven't the room for them, threats of 'chipping' bins for excessive usage, the tyrannical and bullying attitude by some councils on the insistence that householders sort out their stuff into many different containers (and woe betide you if you don't); bin Gestapo (sorry, inspectors) checking through your rubbish to make sure there's nothing there that shouldn't be - the list goes on!
It's just unbelievable that this has all been allowed to happen. Power does indeed corrupt.
Sounds like a crock to me. So far they have not done something like that around me, but I see it coming to the states big time if it starts in the UK. Besides, not everyone is physically able to do all of that sorting and such. What about people living in cramped apartments...compost bin??? The people in power don't give a damn!!! Me and my Mum are childminders and we look after 7 children, can you imagine how much rubbish that makes?!?! I shudder to think how much it's going to cost us, in the long run!!
If anyone should be penalised it should be the food producers/supermarkets that produce all the unnecessary food packaging in the first place ~ not us
I agree totally with this statement RS! It's been a bone of contention with me for ages. It really is about time that this problem be looked into and supermarkets/manufacturers be made to re-think their packaging. _________________
We should hold a mass protest at the supermarkets and when we've left the checkout we should discard as much packaging as possible and leave it at the supermarkets let them pay to get rid of it instead of us
